Terribly Sad Day Today

Today is a terribly sad day. I was supposed to ride the Muenster Germanfest Bike Rally today, but due to me getting sick I cannot ride it. Well, let’s say I should not ride it. I could still get on the bike, but if I did ride I’d probably be home from work for a week still sick. And since my job pays for my cycling habit, I felt it better to remain home. This just means I have to find a new one, maybe get 2 rallies in for May.

I’m really bummed about this and want to eat my sorrows away. Anyone else with me? I shouldn’t, shouldn’t I?

Tour Dallas 2010

So I rode with over 3000 people this Saturday, and it was a blast. Believe it or not, this was my first rally. Rallies were one of those things that I avoided because I was self-conscious about my abilities. But this time, I signed up and rode. I’m a bit upset now that I didn’t do any last year. It was a great ride. A bit short, but great.

The Dallas Police Department was out stopping traffic for us so that we could build a nice steady and consistent pace, I know they were being paid, but I want to thank the Dallas Police officers who did that boring work for us. The ride took us around White Rock Lake where we probably pissed off many runners and drivers who were visiting the area…but I didn’t care. Right after White Rock is where a constant climb occurred. I was doing awesome holding a 18mph pace with only a few slowdowns up until that point. Then I had to feel good holding 13-14mph. I haven’t even looked at my stats yet, and I’ll get them posted as soon as I do.

This photo was from the starting line. So many people. A few eccentrics that I was upset that I didn’t get photos of so that I could submit them to Look At This F***ing Hipster. Oh well…

I’m really thinking about this rally now: Germanfest. 2 FREE BEERS!

Summer Rallies

So I’m interested in doing a few 2 or 3 rallies this summer. Because I’m so new to cycling, I’d rather be very cautious about the ones I choose. Since I’m fat and slow, I will probably only do the rallies that have 20-30 mile runs or so. So I’m thinking about these few rallies, wondering what you think:

Tour de Pepper June 13, 2009. 7:00 am. Dublin. 9, 34, 64 miles. $30 before June 6, $35 after. Email.

Collin Classic June 13, 2009. 8 a.m. Mckinney. 4, 15, 22, 34, 47, 55 miles. Email.

Cow Creek Country Classic June 27, 2009. 7:30 am. Waxahachie. 10, 19, 36, 46, 75 and 100 miles. $20 before June 20, $25 after. Family and Corporate discounts. T-shirt. Showers and changing areas are available. Email.

Katy Flatland July 19, 2009. 7 am. Katy. 33, 44, 57, 100 miles. $25. Corporate T-shirt.

David Eikenburg Memorial Bike Ride July 11, 2009. 7:00 am. New Braunfels. 1, 12, 25, 62, 100 miles. $30. T-shirts, bandannas, food, door prizes.

Red Hot Chili Pepper August 15, 2009. 7:30 am. Dallas. 20, 40 and 60 miles. $25, $30 DOR. All pre-registered riders are guaranteed a T-shirt.

If anyone knows of one I should try let me know, so I’ll take suggestions.
