The Weekend Binge and the Suprising Scale

For me, going on a diet has never been difficult but it has been difficult to stay on it. After a couple weeks of doing the diet, I see that nice half rack of baby back ribs and a loaded baked potato with a nice Shiner to wash it down, and suddenly my diet is blown. Not only is the diet blown, but I feel so warm and fuzzy on the insides that I run to replicate that feeling over and over again. Sayounara healthy eating…I feel better with this double fudge ice-cream sundae anyways.

So in order to allow me these simple pleasures and not break the diet, once a week I allow myself a bit of life’s delicious indulgences. WeightWatchers works well with this because it gives me 35 weekly points that I can then use for this time of fat filled deliciosity and stay on track. But this weekend worried me.

This weekend I went to eat dinner with some wonderful friends and afterward we hit a hockey game, a little event I liked to call Operation Dinner Out. Knowing where we were going to eat, I knew it was going to be a time to dive into those weekend points. But wait…the Super Bowl is Sunday… The radio said that the average amount of calories ingested during the Super Bowl is around 1200. (Amazing huh?) I figured I was going to top that.

I knew I could stay on track, but only because my weekend point start over on Sunday. But that would mean a dance with the scale in a way that was not going to be flattering. I was worried. From about Wednesday to Sunday morning, I was dreading getting on that scale. There’s no motivational slap in the face (just a month into the diet) like gaining weight on a diet. I woke up and laughed with my wife about my fear of getting on the scale.

Maybe I should make sure I’m naked…maybe if I lean against the wall while I’m doing it. Anything just to make sure no poundage was added. Finally after an hour or two of trying to find a way out of it, I stepped on. And lo-and-behold, 256.6 lbs.

WHA!?!? So that’s .2 lbs loss, baby. I knew it was going to be a fairly flat-lined week but it was awesome to see that at least something was gone. And if you’ve ever seen those 5lbs hunks of fat that gym have lying around, you’d know that even .2 is meaningful hunk. After some Super Bowl plans falling through, I actually ate pretty well last night so this week I’m back on track. I’ll work hard to do well this week and maybe even try to skip the weekly points just give a nod to this past weekend’s craziness…I don’t know…things are looking bright though.

Anyone else binge a bit this weekend?
